Google changes its homepage doodle every other day and today’s doodle honors Indian – American biochemist named Har Gobind Khorana, for the occasion of celebrating his ninety-sixth birth anniversary today. Gobind Khorana was famous for constructing the very first synthetic gene, and he got recognized for his various works in science. He has even won the Nobel Prize for his research on nucleotides and with genes. A Bengaluru based illustrator named Rohan Dahotre has drawn up today’s doodle for Google that celebrates the pioneering work of Gobind Khorana in a creative way. Even Google India has tweeted saying that Gobind has erased the outer lines that lie between chemistry, physics, and biology to crack up the genetic codes from them.
Things to know about Har Gobind Khorana:
The Indian and American based biochemist Har Gobind Khorana was said to be born in a small village nearby Raipur, during January 9 of 1922. Gobind was said to be the youngest child from the family.
Gobind’s father instilled about the importance of learning and helping the children to write and read, which was not a common practice within the villages, during that part of the time.
Gobind was a bright student during his school days and he had a passion towards science during his younger age itself. Gobind has several scholarships that shall credit and helped him acquire his doctorate with organic chemistry in the year 1948.
At Wisconsin University, Gobind along with Robert W Holley and Marshall W Nirenberg discovered that the new order of nucleotides that are in our DNA shall determine the amino acids that get built within us. These amino acids are known to be a form of protein that shall carry out with essential functions of cell in a human body.
